Protecting the People Who'd be Left Holding the Mortgage

Most people spend weeks getting their mortgage exactly right, then never get round to the conversation about what happens to it if they can’t work, or worse. It’s an easy thing to put off, mostly because nobody enjoys thinking about it.
We’d rather have that conversation with you now, while it’s straightforward, than leave your family to find out what’s covered at the worst possible time. Whole of market, plain language, no pressure.
Which Type of Protection Do You Need?

Life Insurance
A lump sum for your family if you die, so the mortgage and their day-to-day life aren’t suddenly at risk.

Income Protection
A replacement income if you couldn’t work due to illness or injury, whatever the cause.

Critical Illness Cover
A lump sum on diagnosis of a specified serious illness, to ease the financial pressure while you focus on recovery.

Home & Contents Insurance
Covering the building itself and what’s inside it, and usually a lender requirement.

Landlord Insurance
Built for rental properties, covering things standard home insurance doesn’t.
How this Conversation Actually Goes
We ask about your situation, your mortgage, your family, your work, before talking about any specific product. Then we explain what’s genuinely relevant to you, in plain terms, and what isn’t. No pressure to buy everything at once, and no scare tactics to get you there faster.
Not sure which you actually need? Most people need a combination, not just one. That’s exactly what the first conversation is for.

The My Mortgage Co. Way
We know which insurer says yes
Health, occupation and lifestyle get treated differently by every insurer, one might load your premium heavily for something another barely notices. A comparison site shows you prices, but we know which insurers actually fit your situation.
We see your cover as one picture
Buy life insurance here, critical illness there, income protection elsewhere, and you risk paying twice for overlapping cover, or leaving gaps nobody spotted. We review all three together so it actually fits.
We're still here when you need to claim
Plenty of places sell a policy. Fewer stick around for the hardest part, making a claim. That’s when an adviser who knows your file beats a call centre number on an old letter.
Mortgage FAQs
Is mortgage protection compulsory?
Life insurance, income protection and critical illness cover are not legally required, though buildings insurance usually is, most lenders require it as a condition of your mortgage. The others are optional, but worth genuinely considering rather than dismissing.
What's the difference between life insurance and critical illness cover?
Life insurance pays out on death. Critical illness cover pays out on diagnosis of a specified serious illness, while you’re still here to use it. Many people hold both, for different reasons.
How much cover do I actually need?
It depends on your mortgage balance, your income, and who relies on you financially. We’ll work through this properly with you rather than suggest a generic multiple of salary.
Can I get cover if I have a pre-existing health condition?
Often, yes, though it may affect your premium or the terms offered. It’s worth talking to us rather than assuming you won’t be covered.
